Pharmacogenetics

Indications for pharmacogenetic testing

  • Unexpected or severe adverse drug reactions
  • Before a therapy whose efficacy or tolerability depends on the genotype
  • Lack of efficacy despite correct use
  • Unusually high dose requirements

Send us existing genetic test results, medical records, laboratory results and the current medication. We interpret existing pharmacogenetic results or assess whether a test is eligible for reimbursement in Switzerland.

Reimbursement in Switzerland

Basic health insurance covers pharmacogenetic testing subject to the following limitations:

  1. Only before a medicine is administered, or after an adverse reaction or lack of efficacy with a scientifically established link to the genes tested.
  2. Not for the diagnosis of disease, predisposition testing, or HLA typing without a drug-related indication.
  3. For the five drug and gene pairs on the SGKPT list, any physician may order the test.
  4. For all other medicines, testing may only be ordered by specialists in Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology.

The SGKPT list
